#writing help needed

Alright Hobbit & LOTR writer friends, I need some help.

I'm trying to figure out some dwarven alternatives for phrase that typical are written with the words 'man' or 'men'. These are coming from Thorin's perspective and I don't think he would refer to his Company like a commander says, "His men" since the race of Men are a separate entity to Dwarves and Dwarf-men. Plus, Thorin has a dislike for the race of Men, so I don't think he would equate his dwarven companions to men.

Examples from Thorin's perspective that need changed:

His men protested loudly.

If you were one of my men, I'd...

The men around the table laughed riotously.

...with my men?

Gentlemen (is Gentlefolk alright? Gentlepeople? Gentledwarves?)

The hardest part is when there aren't just dwarves in the scene (Bilbo and Gandalf or even some Elves) so I can't always say 'the dwarves'.

It’s weird to say, but I kind of think I’m stuck on my next fic for the Rocker and Tommy are twins series. It’s just Rocker and Buck in this fic, but I’m having trouble writing tension between the two of them. And I think I wrote myself into a hole by saying Rocker gave Buck a lot of shit when they first met. So should I try and find ways to incorporate those moments (that are truly undefined) into this fic or should this kind of skip past all of that and pretend they’ve smoothed things over past whatever happened?

I’d love to hear some thoughts because I’m well and truly stuck and any time I’m stuck on something, all of my other writing projects suffer as well.

Does anyone have suggestions when you can’t write the viewpoint of a specific character? What do you do to get to know your characters better, to figure them out?

🪴Day [40 of 100] of Productivity🪴

Writing: - La cosa più pericolosa - Chapter 23&24 (... work in progress) Those will be the last two chapters of the narrative arc "Se tutto andrà come si spera". Then the central part will finally begin, the most important one, which will separate the two halves of the longfic. Resuming the story after several months of hiatus, I fortunately realized that it's not as disastrous as I thought I had left it. It's not so difficult to go back on track. But I'm proceeding calmly, because lately I just feel like writing with pen and paper only. So... if the updates are delayed a bit, it is because I have to do double the work by writing first by hand and then on my laptop. And thank goodness I'm doing all of this for passion... - Meduse a centinaia - Chapter 1 (... work in progress) Be', ma vaffanculo, why is this motherfucker of a first chapter already 18,000+ words? The first draft (the hardest part) of it has been done, so I hope that completing and finishing the chapter won't take me too long. I am still determined to update "La cosa più pericolosa", before publishing this fourth new story of the saga. May the Universe send me good dose of luck. ❀ I want to thank in advance all the readers who will have the pleasure and the patience to follow me on this new little journey. I hope we will have fun together! :) - Guess what? I'm still working feverishly and constantly on the "New super secret project" that I started this summer. The document in which I'm collecting drafts, notes and dialogues is already almost 100,000 words. I'd say that maybe -- maybe (?) -- I can actually get something good out of it. I'm still very conflicted… on one hand, my brain is burning because I can't wait to start it, to share it, and to see what comes out of it. On the other hand, knowing that I already have two longs in progress, I'm afraid to complicate my life by adding a third one. Fellow writers, what would you do about it? I'm afraid that taking on too much work will push my strength to the limit, causing me another burnout. But, at the same time, everything inside me screams and begs me to be written and vented, causing me further torment. Help🙃

I realized today after extensively editing my sleep deprivation induced typos in That Godawful Fic that itd be at least 90% shorter if I cut out kavan's internal monologue. granted, it was my shoddy attempt at world building and his characterization, but I just know people might actually stick around to read it if it were much less pretentious; and nobody ever likes world building 💀 unfortunately, Victor Hugo possesses me every time I write. ANYWAYS should I remove them or nah?

Now, I have the urge to write from someone's perspective that I wasn't planning to until much later because of plot events and the fact that they are privy to spoiler information. everyday is a normal boring day at school. (oh, but after school everyone seemingly blacks out until the next day. but that’s totally not important.) except the day when a girl (we’ll call her Living Girl) tells her friends that everyone at the school is dead. rumour spreads and someone checks the news. their school burned down, killing everyone except Living Girl who survived with severe burns. people start panicking and wondering if their families are okay, but they soon realize they can’t leave school borders. every day brings a new attempt and every day the border gets smaller, until they’re all stuck in the gym. when they look to Living Girl to tell them what to do, she’s gone. Living Girl was in fact alive, and was the only person who could see the ghosts at the burned ashes of the school. we don’t know how to finish it from there so help

i love it when characters are codependent. i love it when losing someone feels like losing a limb. i love it when two people "complete" each other so wholly and terribly that one can barely function without the other. i love it when the fear of losing the only person who understands them is so all-consuming they'll destroy anything to stay together, including themselves.
